OSIS Modular Structure, the "OSIS-levels"

graphic - OSIS levels

The modular structure of the OSIS technology can be visualised as a series of layers on top of each other.

The bottom layer is the OSIS communication layer, here the communication procedures are carried out, the communication is triggering, the connection established and the transmission process is carried out. The communication between internal application systems is carried out via LAN, for external partners a combination of communication protocols are available as well as the access to network services and to the internet.

The EDI modules syntax & semantic in the OSIS layer above create messages with the correct syntax & semantic as specified in the standards, for example EDIFACT or XML, or according to individually specified syntax & semantic, and verify the incoming messages against the standards.

The third OSIS layer, the Mapping layer contains OSIS modules for the processing and translating of data, for example by converting, branching/duplicating, combining messages, translating of strings (i.e. article names), verifying or archiving data and messages.
Several functions from all three OSIS levels can be configured using parameters and processing tables its enabling use in many industries and individual applications.

The modules of these three levels can be used independent of the industry or application. In a fourth OSIS level various database procedures can be set up for individual applications. These procedures support the interaction between business processes by integrating application systems in specified ways and at the same time enable the monitoring and administration of the message work flow via the web. This additional OSIS extension is called the OSIS-Business-Integration-Platform.
