Syntax & Semantic / OSIS-EDI-Modules

From any given data structure, the OSIS EDI modules can create messages with semantics and syntax that comply with set standards or with standards specified according to individual agreements. In the other direction the OSIS EDI modules can check the incoming messages for their conformity to these given standards, the contents can then be interpreted and made available in a format and structure as required.
Additional to the modules for converting the data formats and structures according to individual agreements, special modules for handling standard message conventions are also available, for example

  • UN/EDIFACT, the international standard. This module can be used for every EDIFACT subset and directory. For many branch orientated subsets ready pre-pared configurations of the modules already exist, for example
    • For the retail industry and consumer goods industry for all well established messages from the EANCOM subset, also including special versions for particular retail chains,
    • For transport and logistics, for transport companies, haulage companies, logistics companies and terminals, public authorities and central harbour business communication systems,
    • In the banking branch,
  • ANSI X.12, a standard mainly used in America,
  • VDA , a standard from the German automobile industry, also ODETTE, a standard from the European automobile industry,
  • ADIS, a standard for the agricultural industry,
  • SAP IDOCs, the standard for the data exchange via RFC, the ALE interface for SAP R/3, including ready prepared module configurations for all the prevalent message types.

XML (Extensible Mark-up Language), the meta language for the definition of documents can be used in a similar way to the EDI formats for electronic data exchange. The OSIS XML module receives XML messages, checks them for conformity and makes them available in any structure or format as required. In the other direction the OSIS a href="osis5.htm">XML module creates XML messages from the given data in the structure and format as specified.
A further special OSIS EDI module creates or interprets data with string/data separators in the data content. In the case of a comma data separator these data forms are called "Comma Delimited Format (CDF)" or "Comma Separated Value (CSV)".
Alone for the Syntax und Semantic level OSIS can be used as an adapter, for example for the conversion of EDIFACT to flat file, from IDOC to XML etc.
