Mapping / OSIS Application Modules
The third OSIS-Layer, the level for mapping, contains modules for converting, and translating the data.
Here are some examples of the application orientated OSIS modules:
- Conversion between various format structures and field formats. Complex calculations, calculation of
control digits, (z. B. EAN-control digit), conversion of dates.
- Sorting of data using the content of predetermined fields as a reference.
- Translation and conditional translation, here messages are edited according to their content,
translation tables and sometimes requiring research in an SQL database table.
- Logical checks for the data consistence using pre-defined rules.
- Branching / duplication of data in a message using conditions that determine the
transmission procedure thus determining which follow on processing, via other application modules, is carried out.
- Archiving of data with the option that the continuation of the processing can be event triggered or
scheduled.
- Distribution, routing of data groups to various partners. The address information
(i.e. communication partner, communication protocol and other parameters for the send process) can be specified in a
static table or dynamically generated from the data during processing.
- Combining and re-routing of data from various files.
- Merging of files / messages of the same kind into one file, carried out according to the
predetermined merging criteria.
The diagram shows a message/file workflow through the various OSIS levels and modules. The message type ORDERS, transferred from an SAP R/3 system
in the IDOC format, is transmitted on one side to the supplier and on the other side to the warehouse´s SQL application database.
