OSIS Web Service

Graphic - OSIS web service

The module OSIS-Web-Service carries out the role of a client calling up web services.

The basis for the connection to, and data exchange with a web service is a document created in WSDL (Web Services Description Language). WSDL is an XML stan-dard for describing network services (Web services) for the exchange of messages. This document largely covers functions that are available externally like the parameter setting and return values of the operations. In detail the WSDL document contains particulars to the interface, to the access protocol, the deployment (the distribution and installation of the data at the target system including the configuration) and to all the necessary information for access to the service.

Using the WSDL-Document as a basis OSIS enables the communication with the service provider via XML based messages and using the protocol soap, http and TCP/IP. SOAP is at protocol that supports the data exchange between systems and enables "Remote Procedure Calls". SOAP relies on the services of other standards for example XML for the representation of the data and the internet protocol for the application and transport (i.e. TCP and http).

In this way OSIS, when used as the data interface manager for a company, can send requests to the web services as a result of demands from application systems. Additionally OSIS can receive information from the web services and transfer it to the application or deposit information from the application in the web services.
